Homemade in Chennai

Before LALA, there was Chennai Annapoorani.

Chennai Annapoorani has been Suba’s kitchen since 2012. It began in Cary, North Carolina, USA, cooking for the Indian community there, and came home to Virugambakkam in 2018. LALA carries that same maker-led approach into pickles and thokkus, with the details of each jar made visible.

2018

She returns to India and brings the kitchen with her, cooking for households across the neighbourhood.

Questions before you order

Answered from the label and the way orders run today.

What size are the jars?

+

Every LALA jar is 250 g net. Avakkai Mango Pickle is ₹195; Lemon Pickle, Ginger Thokku and Garlic Thokku are ₹150 each. The Choose your jar comparison higher up this page lists all four side by side.

How much do I actually use?

+

A teaspoon alongside a meal is the usual serving. A 250 g jar lasts a household of two to four several weeks at that rate.

What should I eat it with?

+

Curd rice, idli, dosai, paratha, plain rice with ghee, or packed into a lunchbox. Avakkai and Lemon are the sharper jars; Ginger and Garlic Thokku are warmer and work as a side for tiffin.

How spicy are they?

+

Avakkai Mango is the hottest of the four. Lemon is tangy first with heat behind it. Ginger Thokku is the mildest. Exact heat is not graded on a scale — ask on WhatsApp if you need a comparison before ordering.

Which jar should I choose?

+

Compare the four jars by flavour, texture and the meals they suit in the Choose your jar section above, or browse meal ideas on the pairings page. If you would still like a comparison before ordering, ask on WhatsApp.

How long does a jar keep, and how do I store it?

+

Best before 45 days from packing. Refrigerate after opening and always use a clean, dry spoon. No added preservatives, so the clean-spoon rule matters.

Do you deliver outside Chennai?

+

You can order straight from this site — pick your jars and the order opens in WhatsApp. We pack in Virugambakkam, Chennai and deliver across India, and to eligible international destinations where courier rules permit. Courier charges are at actuals and confirmed in chat before you pay.

What if the jar I want isn't ready?

+

We pack in small batches, so occasionally a jar sells through before the next one is made. We'll tell you straight away, and if you'd like, we'll message you the day the new batch is packed. Nothing is charged until we've confirmed your jar is ready.

Do you take bulk orders?

+

LALA accepts larger orders for celebrations, return gifts, corporate gifting and stocking up. Call or WhatsApp Suba directly at +91 96771 92015 to discuss quantities, availability, lead time and delivery.
